Master's Degree

Degree: Master of Science
Duration: 4 semesters
Teaching language: Mainly English

Develop advanced knowledge and practical skills based on current research, preparing for independent work in research, development, production or analytics. Strengthen your scientific English for an international working environment.

Program Content

Students choose one of two majors: "Molecules and Materials" (inorganic/organic chemistry) or "Experiment and Theory" (physical/theoretical and industrial chemistry). The assignment of analytical chemistry courses is regulated in the module handbook. Besides compulsory electives and lab courses, they complete a research internship and Master's thesis in one major subject, demonstrating independent scientific work.

Go abroad: one or two semesters abroad are easily possible, and comparable exams will be fully credited.

Admission

You need a Bachelor's degree comparable to TU Dortmund University's Chemistry program, with equivalent theoretical training and laboratory coursework with comparable scope in classical chemistry. Please submit an application for equivalence assessment.

Application

Please complete the table listing your theory courses in classical chemistry (not laboratory courses). This helps us assess your application and shows whether your degree is comparable to our Master's program.

1. Self-disclosure document for the Master's degree program Chemistry

International credits often do not match ECTS, and module handbooks rarely list laboratory details. Please describe your laboratory courses: equipment, experiments, techniques and analytical methods, hands-on involvement and typical group sizes. Broad hands-on experience is a prerequisite for our Master's program, so you must be able to handle glassware, equipment and hazardous chemicals safely and responsibly. Please also attach a course catalogue or module manual for verification.

2. Form about important hands-on laboratory skill in Chemistry
