Biography

Susanne Brakmann received her diploma of Chemistry from the Technical University of Braunschweig in 1988. She undertook her Ph. D. studies in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe with Prof. Reinhold Tacke. After completing these in 1991, she joined the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen as a postdoctoral research associate with Prof. Manfred Eigen. There she turned her research interests to the biocatalytic activities of enzymes and started independent research on their “Directed Evolution”. She applied her knowledge during an employment at Evotec Biosystems AG (1999-2000) and in 2001, moved to the University of Leipzig as a junior research group leader. She received her habilitation from the Technical University of Braunschweig in 2004 before she joined the TU Dortmund’s Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Biology. Since 2013, she is appointed as apl. Professor of Biochemistry.
